Ayurveda is India’s 5,000 year old holistic healing art and science. Its ancient teachings are still quite relevant today, offering us tools for greater balance, optimum health and longevity. Ayurveda emphasizes prevention through a healthy lifestyle. Its primary focus is to create a state of balance between body, mind and consciousness, and further, between oneself and nature. When all these facets exist in harmony, we experience true health. If an imbalance does arise in body or mind, Ayurveda aims to treat its source before it manifests as illness.
Ayurveda honors each of us as individuals and recognizes that we have unique constitutions. There are three different body constitutions (named doshas) unique to the Ayurvedic assessment tradition, called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These three energies help us understand our mental, physical and emotional patterns, and point us in the direction of proper choices for re-establishing balance. There is no one-size-fits-all approach; just as there are no two people that are identical, there are no symptoms or treatments that are exactly the same.
